The Session:

This session was a short LRF session to try and catch small species. I arrived later than I had hoped and there was already plenty of people fishing so I set up in the last available spot. I set up my rod using the line that came with the reel tied to a 2-3 foot length of 6lb line the same way I tie a shock leader to my main line. It doesn't have to be tidy and I don't bother trimming the line. I then put on a hook by passing the line twice through the eye. The hook was a size 18 (barbless) so it took a while to get it through twice but it meant it was less likely to slip due to the friction. I pulled that up the line around 6 inches and then clipped on a 7g dropshot weight. I then put on a tiny piece of extyra large white iSome worm.

Between the wooden struts I dropped the weight and let it sink to the bottom. once I could tell the weight was at the bottom I reeled in the little bit of slack line and lifted the rod just enough for the tip to bend slightly. It wasn't long before I felt a tiny vibration from fish trying to take the worm and I lifted the rod to feel a fish on and I was pleased to see it was a small Poorcod. Two more followed as I tried some red iSome worm aswell and over the next half an hour I had a couple of pouting and a pollock too. The bites stopped soon after though and I had no more before I decided to pack up and try again with some real ragworm in a few days time.
