The Session:

This was a session I had to cut short because I began to feel ill.

I set up on the right hand side of the beach away from a few people who were bathing and surfing. It was difficult to get my baits past the beack breaker as the swell and waves were so big. I had ruled out catching anything on big baits until the tide turned and so I left a long time before I checked each bait and recast.

More people came to do some last minute surfing and despite my obvious presence they began to drify over towards me and eventually one of them found himself catching my line. I had already begun to feel a headache starting so I was not in the mood for putting up with anyones lack of awareness of other people and I just stood and watched him as he looked back and went back to my left. Eventually, they and the other bathers left and I reeled in my rod with sandeel on and found a small bass on the end. I didn't see the bite at all.

I decided to move over to the left hand side of the beach and as I did I noticed the lack of sand to last time I went. There were exposed rocks all over the beach and the height of some of them suggested 3 feet of sand had gone. As I looked around and moved my gear back with each new surge of the tide I saw that there was actually a large patch of sand further back and so it loked like although a lot of sand had gone, some had been moved closer to the high tide mark.

As two other anglers arrived to do some nightime lure fishing I began to feel worse and so I packed up. I didn't feel like I would catch anything else anyway as I had to walk out 100 yards to make my final cast and that didn't even go past the back breaker. The water for most of the way that I waded out was just 3 feet deep.
