Bait: Frozen peeler crab | large frozen sandeel, frozen small squid

Caught (weight): 1 Dogfish (1lbs 0oz, Guessed)

The Session: I set up one rod to target Smoothounds and another to target any other species. Both had a pulley rig which I cast about 80 yards out. Things were very quiet. Each time I reeled in my weights were caught so I had to pull hard to free them. Eventually I changed from gripper leads to 'pear' leads which proved easier to deal with. I had no bites on the smoothhound rod. On teh other rod I had three bites on sandeel, they were gentle bites but didn't seem like crab bites. I decided to try and hit the third one but missed it and so I decided to change the bait to squid to see if it tempted what was there to take the bate more confidently. After a while another bite began. I hit it after a few minutes and after freeing my weight I pulled in what at first I thoght was a crab but it turned out to be a dogfish. It was just hooked on the outside of its mouth. I was sure this had been the cause of the bites on sandeel too. I baited with another squid but no more bites came. After I switched back to snadeel and darkness had began to fall I had another bite which was bold but I waited for it to develop. After a couple of minutes teh rod tip stopped moving. I went to reel in and my lead was snagged so I lost it. The sandeel had also gone. I packed up because I was hungry. Before I did I pulled up a long length of line from the ground which had become mostly covered by gravel and rocks after someone lost it. There was no rig on the end.
