The Session: I arrived at the mark a little earlier than was ideal because a mark I had decided to fish that day was unfishable due to the car park being temporarily closed. I walked quite far to the right hand side of the ridge and set up and cast both rods, with large baits, up to 70 yards out. Occasional wind and light rain came and went as I looked around and thought I was lucky to be in a circle of clearish sky with rainclouds all around me. Over the session the wind strength increased and the black clouds began to drift overhead and I almost mistook a bite to be the power of the wind and rain. As it persisted I struck and reeled in a dogfish after having to pull to snap the rotten bottom and leave my lead behind. That was about it for the session. The wind built up and the rain became worse and it was after deciding it wasn't going to let off as there appeared to be nothing but black clouds downwind. I packed one rod up after losing another weight and the rod baited with squid showed a steady, persistant bite which I struck at and though I felt no resistance or hint of a fish, the rig came back weightless and with barely anything left of the hooklength. Puzzled, I decided to pack up this rod and make a slow walk back in the, now very strong wind and cold heavy rain. I chalked this up as a bit of a poor second choice and was disappointed I could not fish my chosen mark as I believe it would have been more sheltered from the wind. There were several bits of litter and clumps of line, clearly discarded rather than lost, on my walk back but I decided against trying to take them home with me, with the wind and rain in my face and struggling to navigate the rocks from keeping my head down, I decided cursing the people who left it would have to substitute collecting it up.
