Bait: Whole frozen loligo squid, frozen black lugworm, frozen razor clam | frozen black lugworm, frozen large sandeel

Caught (weight): 1 Flounder (1lbs 5oz, Weighed)

The Session: I tried to set up close to the lighthouse but due to the distribution of mud and sand, which had changed a lot since I last fished here, I ended up having to walk back towards Burnham-On-Sea and set up almost in front of the road I had parked down. Some of the mud I had to stand in was a foot deep but there were some hard patches that meant I moved back with the tide wherever these patches meant I could put my seat box down without it sinking too much.

I fished two rods with pulley rigs and one with a large squid bait and the other with sandeel, and adding or switching to other baits with each cast. The session was pretty much uneventful and I can't say I noticed one single bite with the confidence it was a bite. Bait mostly came back whole and thankfully reeling in the grip leads over the mud didn't pose much of a problem.

It was quite late into the session when I though I saw the tip of the rod I had two lugworm on moving out of time with the gentle pull of the small waves. I left it for a while and actaully forgot about it until I decided to reel in and felt what I first though was weed and then as I appeared to have my rig stuck in mud at the waters edge I walked forward and saw the Flounder. This is my first Flounder so I was quite pleased to be able to see one and have a change to see their markings close up. It weighed 1.36lb on my digital scales and had managed to swallow both whole lugworm and my 2/0 Sakuma Manta Hook.

I kept to lugworm on that rod for the rest of the session but I had no more luck. I decided to pack up because the wind had been stronger than was forecast and I should have opted to wear my flotation suit bottoms instead of the waterproof trousers I had on because my legs were very cold. I think I'd have to get some warmer trousers if I fish here again this coming autumn/winter.

Once I had packed up other anglers were doing so too. None of them had done very well either. It seemed it was just the wrong night.
