The Session: I fished with my friend again and we both fished a single rod, casting them in the direction of the breakwater to and over to the rocks opposite the area we were sat. My friend was the first to have a bite which was a dogfish. I then had a bite that gave occasional pulls over several minutes and finally gave a good pull while we were chatting to a passer by. I hooked the fish and as the behaviour of the bite indicated it was not a dogfish. I was surprised to see a nice sized pollock appear in the surf below and I went to lift it out but had a clump of weed stuck to my leader knot so I was unable to reel in enough line to lift the fish right up. I lowered it back onto the rocks below, just in a pool of water and when I cleared the weed tried to lift it again but it fell off. The three of us looked down at the fish trying to guess it's size and I settled on 1.5lb, though it was diiicult to judge from so far away and it could have been bigger. We watched as a few more rushes of the tide into the pool enabled the fish to swim back to sea. A little disappointed I recast. We had a steady run of bites all night and each one we put down to being dogfish. My friend hooked and lost several on the retrieve, while I lost a snagged rig, which I changed to a simple running ledger with a rotton bottom when I set up again. Over the rest of the sesssion it was becoming clear the rain was not going to stop and after my last dogfish we were both feeling quite cold and uncomfortable so I suggested we pack up.
