The Session:

I decided to have a short float fishing session from a local pier. When I arrived it was already quite busy and I set up one rod quickly to try and get a few casts on the lower pier before the tide pushed me off. I managed a few casts, or more like dropping the float down by the edge, with the float set at around 15feet deep but had nothing. I then moved up near the car park and began fishing down some steps where it was sheltered from the wind and I also set up the other float rod.

Now with two rods, one baited with mackerel strips and the other, whole sandeel I cast them both into the white water being generated by the sea hitting the pier structure by the side of me.

To say it was slow would be an understatement. I didn't have to reposition the floats o often of I didn;t want to because the floats would be pushed around in the white water a bit and then slowly drift into some slack water by the pier wall. I tried various depths and after almost 2 hours I had a bite on the Mackerel bait and landed a typical sized Pollock for this mark. That was soon followed by two more but then that was it. I had no more bites and eventually packed up after 8pm. I went to see if any of the remaining anglers had been catching but they hadn't had much, but one had a bite while I was still there and landed a small Spotted Ray
