Weather: A light wind in my face early on but changing to coming from behind as the strength increased a little

Sea: Flat and clear with waves just a foot deep, rolling for about 20 yards and then increasing in size to about 2 foot later in the session

Method: ledger (homemade pulley rig with rotten bottom) | ledger (homemade pulley rig with rotten bottom)

Bait: frozen large sandeel | frozen mackerel segments, frozen dirty squid pieces, frozen large sandeel

Caught (weight): 1 Small Eyed Ray (3lbs 0oz, Guessed)

The Session: I set up a few hundred yards down the right of the beach and cast both rods, one baited with sandeel and the other a very large segment of mackerel, about 70 yards out. The mackerel beait showed a bite quite soon after casting but it didn't develop into anything beyond a few small, sharp pulls of the rod tip. It was a while before I have any more bites but the several came in succession. The sandeel had the most but the first couple I missed probably because I didn't wait long enough. The next time I was sucessful as I waited longer for the bite to develop. I felt the fish on but knew it wasn't huge. I wasn't disapopointed though as I saw it was a small-eyed ray. I took a quick photo, unhooked it and put it back. I then had two bites on the other rod, which I changed to squid, but again they didn't amount to anything I thought I should strike at and the bait came back chewed up when I reeled in. I changed this rod to sandeel after experiencing a few more bites on this bait but after I did the bites stopped. I spent the next three hours trying long casts and short ones but I did not get lucky. I packed up confident I could do better if I tried again soon.
