Caught (weight): 1 Bass (0lbs 6oz, Guessed), 1 Bass (0lbs 8oz, Guessed)

The Session: I walked to the last three houses and set up both rods before casting out. The waves were small and I was able to wade out 20 yards to get some more distance when casting. I cast the sandeel first and with the help of the wind managed to get the bait quite far past the back breaker. I then did the same with the lugworm. I didn't have to wait long at all for the first bite and I had only just sat down when the first bass took the lugworm. The bite was continuous and as I struck I first thought it was a big fish but then realised my grip lead was not collapsing very easily. Once I reeled the fish in I released it and with my hopes already high for a good session I began rebaiting the hook. It was while doing this that the sandeel showed a bite and after a few moments I struck, but had nothing. I recast the lugworm, about the same distance again and it was about half an hour until the next bite came and it was the second bass, again it was pulling the rod tip continouously. Upon me touching the fish when I went to put it back, it puffed out its gills and bent like a banana and stayed like this even for a few moments after I released it and it rolled over in the surf a few times before straightening up and swimming off so quickly it was as if it disappeared. Again, shortly after, something took the sandeel and I struck find nothing on the end. The next cast too showed a bite but it was a single sharp pull and then nothing. The rest of the session was pretty uneventful with just a few occasional bites but nothing that was persistent. My sandeel would be chewed slightly and on other occasions, either bait would be gone completely. I took a break at around low tide and went to chat to another angler and returned to my rods intending to fish for 2 more hours, or 3 if things picked up. I didn't even manage the 2 hours as the wind seemed to be still increasing in strength and I had not had a bite for nearly an hour. I decided to pack up, not too disappointed as there is plenty of the year left to go for this mark to produce big fish.
