The Session:

I returned to the mark I fished yesterday to see if the Smoothounds would show again and I was joined by Chris who I have fished with a couple of times before.

I arrived an hour before Chris as I wanted to see if the Smoothounds began feeding at the same point in the tide so I needed to fish a long enough window to be sure they didn't start earlier. I set up two rods again awith sandeel and crab and waded as far as I could to cast out. This time the waves were a little bigger and rolling further while also the sand was full of dips making it difficult to walk out so my casts were not landing in water as deep as they were yesterday. As long as the fish began biting after low tide it should just mean I need to wait a little longer for a bite if the fish tend to stay a certain distance behind the breakers.

During daylight I had no bites and so I spent some time looking for crabs to keep just in case I ran out of frozen ones. Chris joined me after I had been fishing around an hour and ended up catching more than me.

Chris's bites began around the same time that I began getting them the previous day, an hour after low tide, and I began getting them around half an hour afterwards. Again though I lost a couple quickly after hooking them and also missed a run. It was after Chris had caught a few that I had my first and I was sure it was bigger than the biggest one I had the previous day and the scales confirmed it.

Unfortunately that was the only fish I managed to land. I lost another as Chris managed to catch a couple more but then the bites slowed and Chris finally had the biggest of the night. We both packed up at the same time and I contemplated changing my plans for the next day to return here for a 3rd session.
