The Session: I fished with a friend to show him what beach fishing was like. The fog/mist was unpleasentas it reduced visibility so much it was impossible to sea where the tide was or to see how far the cast went after dark. My firned had some practice casts with one rod while I left the other one out, although I was not able to get teh bait beyond the furthest breaker. After around 45 minutes , just after dark had fully set in I was rebaiting teh rod with crab when the tip of the sandeel rod was pulled a number of times. I dropped the bait and lifted the other rod, forgetting I had put the drag low and after a moment of confusion corrected it and wondered what was on teh end. It felt like a digfish so I was surprised when a bass appeared almost right at our feet. Believeing this could be the sign of a good session I took a quick photograph and put it pack in the surf. I rebaited and cast both rods, again not sure if they were landing far enough but hoping the bass was a sign I didn't even have to get beyond the furthest breaker. Unfortunately the rest of the session produced just one bite and I fought a fish for a few moments before it came off, which may have been due to me letting the line go slack as I adjusted my grip on the rod. The mist lifted around us which made things more comfortable for about half an hour or so but it then came back even worse. My friend took some photographs to pass the time better, with a new camera he has until the mist came back. We eventually packed up being uncomfortable and unable to see very far at all.
