No problem. I wish it was better news. I intended to press them a bit more on it but just haven't got round to it yet, I didn't realise it has been so long since I first asked.

After having a second large fishing item 'lost' by Parcel Force, I decided to look at what help I can get to recover the parcel. I was shocked to discover thet the courier service industry is not regulated so I have created a petition on the governments website calling for couriers to be regulated and fined for parcels they fail to deliver. The petition is here:

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/582809

Background to my case.

As I had a £175 seat box 'lost' by Parcel Force a few years ago, when it apparently got scanned into Exeter Depot but dissappeared into thin air, I ensured that a recent fishing rod I neeeded to send through them (an IMAX Match Tip M fishing rod, Brand New) had several address labes applied to it. I also put on a couple of 'Fragile' labels on that contained wording as unique as the address.

The recipient contacted me after around 3 days saying it hadn't been delivered, I called parcelforce who told me "The label must have come off" and I replied "What, all of them" and explained how I aplklied several labels on so there was no chance they would all come off. I also explained that The people who dealt with me at the post office all confirmed that the labels were on fine and could only come off with human help, plus as the tube I sent was triangular it would be very odd if each face of the tube had been exposed to something that could cause the labels to come off. The person I was speaking to, was obviously a little thrown by this as their script probably tells them that as long as they say "the label must have come off" they are not accepting liability as it is very much in the air in that sense. They the struggled to defend their claim and I told them I wanted an investigation doing.

I contacted several people at ParcelForce via email, and in person after that first time and all they displayed was an attitude of, this is just another lost parcel, another day. I even went back to the Post Office and told them what had happened and the woman who did the sale said "No, that's been taken."

So basically, I and Post Office staff believe that the labels didn't come off the parcel, they were either pulled off or the rod was just stolen by a member of staff. ParcelForce were very evasive in answering questions regarding the parcel itself, CCTV footage, what happens to lost parcel, as well as showing willing to send me a signed statement of what checks they have done to find the parcel. Clearly they did none, so they could not do it. All they could do is give inauthentic apologies. In any case, the theft has cost them a customer, as well as costing the Post Office a customer and the shop, which I will stop visiting when I move home shortly and will be equal distance between them and a non-post office. It may not sound like much action but I was spending at least £4000 per year in the shop and now I;ve cut right down as I will not spend money with any business associated with Parcel Force or Royal Mail (Royal Mail have been delivering my post elsewhere recently too and my complaint was met with the dsame insincere apology, and even a "if we dont hear from you within 7 days we will consider the matter resolved!" comment)

I have recorded the theft as a crime. The number is CR/019390/21, for anyone who may have information regarding an Imax Match Tip M rod that was supposedly lost by Parcel Force.

My advice to anyone who ever has parcels lost by couriers is to say you don't believe it has been lost and to log it as a crime via 101 so the high number of parcels that are not really lost, is taken notice of.

To date I have received no further communication from Selaine Saxby

Upon learning that the disabled access to the quarry platform was no longer being allowed I emailed The Countryside Trust to ask why the decision had been taken and for a copy of any report or assessment that they had done which caused them to take their decision. I received no reply and I know of another angler who has also emailed them but received no reply.

So I have now emailed my local MP, who has kindly responded stating that she too has now emailed the trust to ask about the situation at Berry Head. My local MP is Selaine Saxby and I hope Selaine receives a response with information that we can do something with, be it fully understand why the decision was taken, or challenge the decision if it looks like they have taken it unjustly.

I am not disabled, but I think that if I was I would like to decide myself what risks I should take when fishing, just like I do now. I believe the reason was that some of the pathway down to the platform is blocked and so access to the platform by disabled people is difficult, but there are people who prefer to fish from the rocks to the side of the platform and they understand the risks and are prepared to take them. If the parking is still safe then I believe each person should decide for themselves whwther to take any risk or not. The Countryside Trust should just provide the information that explains the state of the area and not make the untimate decision themselves, but leave it to the individual.

I will respond here with any other response I receive from Selaine. For now, Thank you Selaine for trying to clarify this for me.

Petitions

The forum has an upvote function. If someone proposes a petition which receives upvotes from enough members a site petition will be created for people to sign and it will be sent to the relevant person(s). The petition will detail exactly the number of people who are represented as a percentage of the active users to give an accurate indication of its support.

Also ask any questions about the rules and regulations here, including discussion as to whether they need changing or not. If you are knwledgable and can answer questions with factual information, please help out.

Hello

Hello philthefish74 and welcome to the forum.

You had a lucky escape this weekend for battery point because of the tide sizes but next weekend should be an ideal small tide so provided the weather continues to improve it'll be ideal.

Some people have reported catching cod from the channel on ragworm recently and that the cod have had loads of small crabs in their bellies so if you can take those baits and/or lugworm and squid you should have the bait covered well.

Other options on the day, could be Severn Beach if you can get the slipway mark in front of Beach Rd and Beach Avenue. You should be able to fish it from a couple of hours after low right until 2 hours before low again, otherwise down by Clevedon Pier (Ladye Bay ledges) could be another option. Ladye Bay ledges gets slated for the amount of litter though.

It seems the Cod are showing one minute and then nothing the next, all along the channel, at the moment but there are some nice Thornback Ray coming in from time to time aswell so some decent ones may show even if the cod don't.
