The Session: I went to my local pier for a short session on this evening because the weather forecast the rest of the weekend wasn''t looking very good. I set up pon the lower pier and began with a float rod baited with mackerel dropped down by the edge of the pier at a depth of around 14 feet. I then set up my two ledger rods with pulley rigs and cast them both around 70 yards out before finally setting up a rod wirth a running ledger and rotten bottom baited with a mackerel head. I also put a prawn trap down the side of the pier with a lot of old bait in.

The session wasn''t very eventful at all. The fish bite came on the float rod after an hour of being there. The rod, which was restsed horizontal with the butt on the stabilising bar of my tripod and the middle of the rod on the pier railings, was pulled forward and the ring made a noise as it hit the netal and alerted me to the bite. When I was unhooking the fish I noticed that it was blind in one eye and I wondered if it was the same fish I caught a few sessions before because it was the same size too if my memory was correct. The very next drop down gave another bite and it too pulled the rod hard. This fish was bigger and I recast hoping that a shoal was around and the session was going to get busy. Unfortunately it didn''t. I had no more bites on the float rod, and just a couple on the ledger rods of which I only hooked and landed a single dogfish.

The prawn trap produced around 18 prawns though and a couple of crabs. Due to it not being very busy I decided to pack up at midnight.
