The Session: I gave my regular rock mark another go and this time I brought some mackerel feathers with me as well as my float rod. I set both of them up before fishing and I cast out the float and reeled in a fe times until I got t to sit in a spot where it was not being pulled by the tow of the tide too much. I then began using my mackerel feathers and decided that if the float began producing fish I would give the feathers a rest for a while.

It was around 2 hours before I had a bite and it was on the feathers. I was a little surprised that a Garfish had taken them. I had another one on the very next cast. It was after returning this fish that I began to notice shoals of them sometimes following the feathers inwards until I drew them back into the murky water close in. Sometimes there looked to be over 10 following but mostly they appeared to just be investigating.

Over the next couple of hours I must have seen them follow my feathers for a quarter of the casts I made but only another two took them, before they finally stopped showing. As there were no Mackerel waround after nearly 6 hours of feathering I concentrated on the float but it was another hour and a half before I had a bite from a small Pollock and that was it. It was another poor session on the float but I experienced catching Garfish on the feathers for the first time. I don''t think they''ll be a fish I will be happy to catch a lot though due to their tendency to hardly ever stop wriggling when they are landed.
