The Session: I set up in front of one of the entrances on to the beach and decided to fish my two usual ledger rods both with pulley rigs and squid and sandeel baits. The conditions were ok despite the sea being unclear and there being a bit of weed around.

I cast both rods as far as I could which would have been around 80 yards and continued wity the same baits all night. I had two bites on the squid, where the first I saw the rod tip bend over and keep going down. I jumped up and grabbed the rod and struck but I felt nothing. When I reeled in the bait was still relatively intact so I sent it straight back out. Not long after I saw the line drop slack so again I jumped up and reeled in the slack line as I lifted the rod from the tripod. No sooner had I tightended up the line it went slack again and did so 5 times before I decided I needed to striek hard to take up the slack as well as take some steps back at the same time. I felt a brief pull back from a fish but it immediately came off. The bait this time was chewed a bit so I rebaited and cast back out quickly but I thought that the bumping of the fish would have scared it off.

As I had no more bites I felt that was what happened and after sitting there for several more hours I decided to call an end to the session and concentrate on going out again tomorrow for a longer session.
