The Session:

After my poor session at Porlock, mostly during darkness I tried the mark again in daytime to see how it would fish. I was the only one there to begin with but other anglers began arriving around an hour after I began fishing.

I set up the same rods and rigs as last week to begin with and also cast them around the same distances, 70 yards for the flapper rig and 60 yards for the up and over rig. It was a very slow day and I had no bites that I noticed in the first couple of hours. Each time I checked the bait they were virtually untouched for the first few casts. Then the ragwom was being taken but I didn't see any bites at first. Eventually a pouting gave a small indication and another one did an hour later.

After than I had a few more bites on both rods but they were hard to catch at the right time to strike at. The rod with the large bait on had one moment where the tip bent down only to spring back up and when I reeled it in after giving it a few minutes for a bite to develop I found the bait to have slid up the line and the line all twisted so I suspected a Conger Eel had tried to take it. Other than that I had nothing and by the look of it neither did any of the other anglers who turned up after me. Some even packed up before me and oen I spoke to said he'd had one Dogfish and no other bites. I suppose I did ok considering.

Despite the few downpours and fairly strong wind gusts it was a nice day for the most part, but possibly the last time I try Porlock until summertime this year.
