The Session:

I fished my local pier during a fairly big tide and not great conditions but I hoped I would be sheltered from some wind on the lower pier.

When I arrived I did almost change my mind because the wind was cold, the lower pier was not clear of water yet and the sea looked quite rough at first glance, but I settled on giving it a few hours if it felt sheltered when I got down there.

Once I set up and cast out my 3 rods, which were my flapper, pulley and running ledgers, I found I was shielded from the wind enough if I sat far back enough from the edge.

The rod tips of the two ledger rods I had in the tripod were blown around by the wind a bit but otherwise the conditions were manageable. The other rod was shielded by the wind due to me keeping it low down by the railings after I put the galf mackerel a few yards out.

The night was very quiet though and I barely had any bites, with the first one happening just before midnight, and I missed it but the very next cast produced another bite and I hooked that one, which was a small Conger Eel, then I had nothing for almost 2 hours when I had two more bites, again missing the first and hooking the second, which was a dogfish.

I gave it another half an hour after releasing the dogfish and decided to pack up. In the time I had been ethere another two anglers had turned up and one had packed up before me, so I probably did well to get what I did.
