The Session: I walked about 100 yards to the left of the weir to an area where there were just a few rocks and lots of pebbles because I thought it would make it easier for me as it was my first time fishing here. I baited the first rod with a sandeel putting the hook through the tail end then again through the head with the point upwards, and cast it as far as I could, to my left a little. It was around a 70 yard cast and I kept the line high as I tightened up and set the rod in the rest just in cases there were any snags that would catch slack line. The next rod was baited with a crab, just with the shell removed and the hook pushed through the bottom of the crab at the back and then through the head with the point upwards. I cast this the same but to the right a little. On one retrieve I found the hooklength had been snipped through, about 6 inches from the swivel, on the sandeel rod. No bites came until after dark and a few re-baits and casts and both rods showed a bite at the same time. I decided to deal with the sandeel baited rod first as the bite was more lively and it was a small dogfish. By the time I unhooked it and put it back the other rod had not really shown much more activity but I reeled it in to check the bait. There turned out to be a small rockling on the hook. I put this back and waited about half an hour for the next bite. This turned out to be a dogfish to, and so did the next, 20 minutes later. It was a short session I decided to have last minute when I saw the weather would be ok for me to give porlock a go for the first time.
