The Session: I fished with a friend and we asked the gentleman at the gate if we were ok to park and we were directed to the upper lane, to park in the 'passing place' as tight in as we could get. There were a couple of surfers still about so we walked along as far as we thought safe. I began with a Greys clipped rig but was dissapointed that the hooklength was too long and I would have needed several snap links to clip the grip lead on to to make the rig useable correctly. So I used it first without clipping down. I managed casting just over the back breaker ok (around 60 yards) but wanted to get a bit further so when I had fished a couple of hours with no bites I made up a quick pulley rig and baited with a mackerel segment. There was still no activity until almost dead on low tide when a couple of small pulls on the rod tip happened and after a couple of minutes being still one more small pull and I reeled in to find a dab on the end. It was a long walk back to the bags to take a photo and putting it back in the sea took a while because it kept swimming the wrong way. Eventually it went though and I rerturned to watching the rod tip and an aching back and legs from standing still so long. I was surprised how slowly the tide came in compared to how quickly it went out. I suppose it must pick up pace later on, on the bigger tides at least. Next time I'll go a little later in the tide.
