The Session: I wanted to try Berry Head again after a successful session last year and also to see how the session might be different to when I tried on the same bank holiday weekend a couple years ago.
I fished with Amanda, Robert and John and we all travelled light due to the longish walk from the car park. We all began float fishing and I set mine to around 10 foot deep and cast it varying distances around the platform. Unfortunately I had no bites at all. John had one wrassefrom right down by the edge of the platform, but Robert and Amanda, like me had nothing.
I decided to set up a feathering rod and gave it a few casts before going back to the float rod, hoping some fish would come around here as the tide came in and the level rose. Eventually, after seeing another angler catch a couple of mackerel I switched back to the feathers and John and Robert did too.
It took many casts for us but eventually we caught some mackerel, about 7 or 8, with just the one to me. We packed up to get something to eat before having another session, this time from the breakwater. I was disappointed that I couldn't help them land wrasse each, but at least it is a place they all know of now and can return to if they so wish.
